CMA CGM Announces Immediate Operational Suspensions and Surcharges Amid Middle East Crisis

Due to the evolving security situation in the Middle East and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, CMA CGM has implemented several immediate measures to ensure the safety of its crew, vessels, and cargo.

Here are the critical updates impacting logistics and supply chains:

  • Vessel Rerouting: All vessels inside or bound for the Persian Gulf have been instructed to proceed to shelter immediately. Passage through the Suez Canal is suspended until further notice, with vessels being rerouted via the Cape of Good Hope.

  • Emergency Conflict Surcharge (ECS): Effective March 2, 2026, an ECS is applied to shipments to and from affected Middle Eastern countries. The rates are USD 2,000 per 20′ Dry Container, USD 3,000 per 40′ Dry Container, and USD 4,000 per Reefer or Special Equipment.

  • Halt on Specialized Cargo: CMA CGM has immediately stopped all bookings for Reefer Cargo and Dangerous Goods / Hazardous Cargo to and from the region.

  • Widespread Booking Suspensions: All general bookings are suspended with immediate effect for Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the port of Umm Qasr in Iraq, and all ports in Saudi Arabia (except Jeddah, King Abdallah, Yanbu, NEOM) and the UAE (except Khor Fakkan & Fujairah).

CMA CGM is communicating directly with customers regarding cargo already on board or ready to load.
